End User License Agreement

01 This agreement

This End User License Agreement (this Agreement) is a contract between you and Viral Host Digital LLC (Parastoria, we, or us), the maker of the Parastoria desktop application (the App). By installing, copying, or using the App, you agree to it. If you do not agree, do not install or use the App.

This Agreement covers the App — the software you run on your own computer. It does not cover our website or your paid subscription, which are governed by our Terms of Service, or how we handle data, which is described in our Privacy Policy. Where a term below conflicts with the Terms of Service, the Terms of Service control for anything to do with your account, billing, or the website; this Agreement controls for the App itself.

02 Who may use the App

You must be at least 13 years old to install or use the App and — as our Terms of Service also require — old enough to form a binding contract where you live. If you are between 13 and the age of majority in your country, use the App only with the knowledge and consent of a parent or guardian. By using the App, you represent that you meet these requirements.

Parastoria is a general-audience creative tool; it is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. Marin can improvise open-ended and sometimes mature fantasy — peril, conflict, and the darker corners of a story — so the 13+ floor is deliberate. You are responsible for keeping what happens at your table age-appropriate for whoever sits there.

03 The license we grant you

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the App for your own tabletop games — running sessions, prepping worlds, and playing at your table. This is a license to use the App, not a sale of it; we and our licensors keep all rights in the App's own software and design that we don't expressly grant here.

You may install the App on the computers you personally use, subject to the Microsoft Store's install rules and any device limits tied to your subscription. The license is identical whether you play free or on a paid plan — same App, same grant. What differs is not the license but the plan around it: on the free plan, each campaign gathers into its lantern, a fixed world-content budget — and a full lantern pauses new gathering in that campaign only, never play, editing, or export — while a paid plan lifts that ceiling and adds cloud sync between your devices and standing seats for your players. Nothing in this section touches what you make with the App: that is covered by section 05, and it stays yours.

04 Your own AI, your own machine

Parastoria is local-first. You may run the App entirely on your own hardware, and you may bring your own AI key — connecting Marin, our co-author, to a model provider of your choosing instead of, or alongside, our hosted service. That choice is yours to make and unmake at any time.

If you use our hosted Marin, generating a turn sends that turn — your message together with the campaign context the App assembles for it, which can include your GM-only notes, scene secrets, and world truths — to third-party AI providers who produce the reply. Today those are OpenRouter (primary) and Groq (failover), and OpenRouter may pass the request on to downstream inference hosts it selects. Parastoria does not use your prompts for advertising or to train Parastoria's own models; how each provider uses or keeps what it receives is governed by that provider's own terms, and we do not currently promise a no-training setting on their side. If you'd rather nothing left your machine at all, run the local engine, which talks only to the endpoint you configure — by default, your own computer.

When you bring your own key, your use of that provider is governed by your agreement with them, not this one. You are responsible for keeping your key secure and for any usage or charges it incurs. We don't ask for, store, or transmit your third-party key to ourselves; it stays encrypted on your machine so the App can talk to your provider directly. If you use hosted Marin instead, that use is not rationed — there is nothing to spend down and nothing to top up; it is subject only to the protective limits against automated abuse described in the Terms of Service.

05 Your worlds are yours

The worlds, maps, characters, campaigns, notes, narration, and everything else you create, write, import, or shape in the App — your Content — belong to you. Parastoria claims no ownership of it. We do not sell it, we do not use it to train our models, and we do not treat your campaign as ours. Your files are files you own and can export at any time.

To run the App for you — to draw a map you asked for, save your campaign, or send a player-safe projection to your players' phones — we need your permission to do the ordinary technical things software does with your Content: store it, display it, back it up, and process it on the device or provider you chose. When you turn on cloud sync — a paid, opt-in feature — you also ask us to upload and store your Content (a campaign snapshot together with the assets it references, such as images and maps) in Parastoria's account-scoped cloud storage on Amazon S3, encrypted at rest, so it can move between your own devices. Sync stays off until you enable it; free or lapsed accounts can pull their own data back down, but their worlds are never uploaded. You grant us a limited license to do only these things, only so the App works the way you asked, for as long as you use it. That's the whole of it. What Marin drafts at your request is a draft you keep or cut; once you keep it, it's part of your Content, and it's yours.

06 Rules you bring in

Parastoria runs your game — any system, including rules you write yourself or import. When you bring in a ruleset, you are making an attestation to us: that you have the right to use and import it, and that doing so does not infringe anyone else's rights. Imported rules are your attested user content, and you are responsible for what you bring.

A word on how the App treats rules, so the line is clear. Parastoria's rules engine is built mostly from original mechanical scaffolds we wrote — the checks, the clocks, the math you describe or import — together with limited, attributed excerpts of openly-licensed (Creative Commons) reference material, used under those licenses and credited in Third-party & open content below. It is not a channel for copying the expressive text, art, or trade dress of a commercial rulebook beyond what those open licenses allow, and you agree not to use it that way. If you import proprietary material you don't have the right to use, that's on you, not on the App — and we may remove or disable access to infringing content on notice, as the Terms of Service describe, and may terminate the accounts of those who infringe repeatedly.

07 Third-party & open content

Parastoria stands on the shoulders of open, freely-shared work, and we're glad to name it. The App ships original mechanical scaffolds plus limited, attributed excerpts of openly-licensed reference material, used under the licenses set out below. None of the creators named here endorse Parastoria or are affiliated with it; these attributions are required by their licenses, and nothing here implies any sponsorship or endorsement.

As Parastoria's library of systems and assets grows, we'll keep this section current. If you believe something here is incomplete or credited wrongly, write to us at hello@parastoria.app and we'll put it right.

08 What you may not do

Under this license, you agree not to:

• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App, or attempt to derive its source code — except to the extent applicable law expressly permits this despite this restriction (for example, to make a back-up copy, to observe or study how the App works, or to obtain the information needed for interoperability, where the law gives you that right regardless of this Agreement).
• Copy, sell, rent, lease, sublicense, or redistribute the App itself, or make it available to others as a service, apart from the personal use this license grants you.
• Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, attribution, or other proprietary notices in the App — including the credits in section 07.
• Work around, disable, or tamper with the App's security, entitlement, or protective-limit checks — including the free lantern's world-content budget or the sync that reads your subscription tier.
• Use the App to create, host, or distribute content that is unlawful, that infringes someone else's rights, or that you've been told you may not import (see section 06).

None of these restrictions limit the ordinary things you can do — playing, prepping, exporting your own worlds, and bringing your own key and rules.

09 Copies from the Microsoft Store

If you obtained the App through the Microsoft Store, the Store's own Standard Application License Terms also apply to your copy, and the following passthrough terms govern the relationship between you, us, and Microsoft:

• This Agreement is between you and us, not with Microsoft. We — not Microsoft — are solely responsible for the App and its content.
• Microsoft has no obligation to furnish support for the App. Support requests come to us, at hello@parastoria.app.
• To the extent this Agreement provides any warranty, we — not Microsoft — are responsible for honoring it, and Microsoft is not responsible for any other claims relating to the App.
• Microsoft and its affiliates are third-party beneficiaries of this Agreement and may enforce it against you as it relates to your license to the App.
• You must comply with the Microsoft Store's terms and any applicable third-party terms when you download, install, and use the App.

This Agreement grants you rights to use the App that are no more restrictive than the usage rules set out in the Microsoft Store terms. Where the Microsoft Store's Standard Application License Terms and this Agreement differ for a Store-obtained copy, the Store terms control to the extent required; everything else in this Agreement still applies.

10 Updates and availability

We may release updates, fixes, and new versions of the App from time to time, and your Store settings may install them automatically. Updates are provided under this Agreement unless they come with their own terms. We may add, change, or retire features of the App and of hosted Marin — for good reasons such as swapping the AI providers behind it, adjusting the free lantern budget or our protective limits, or evolving how sync works — and, because part of the App reaches our servers, availability of hosted features is not guaranteed to be uninterrupted. Your local-first worlds remain readable on your machine regardless.

Where we make a change that more than minorly degrades a feature you pay for, we'll give you notice by a durable means and, where the law requires, the right to end the affected paid subscription without penalty, as described in the Terms of Service.

11 No warranty

The App is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory — including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. Marin is a co-author, not an oracle: her drafts, rulings, and generated content are suggestions for you to review, keep, or cut, and we do not warrant that they are accurate, complete, or fit for any particular table. You are responsible for the calls you make.

None of this takes away rights the law will not let us sign away. If you are a consumer, nothing in this section or the next one excludes or limits the non-waivable rights you hold under the mandatory law of the country where you live. Consumers in the EU/EEA keep the conformity rights the Digital Content Directive guarantees; consumers in the United Kingdom keep their rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 — including that, if the App as digital content damages your device or your other digital content because we failed to use reasonable care and skill, you are entitled to a repair or to compensation, and that right cannot be excluded. Because some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, parts of this section may not apply to you, and you may have additional rights.

12 Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Viral Host Digital LLC and its suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or the cost of substitute software, arising out of or relating to the App or this Agreement — even if we've been advised such damages were possible. Our total liability for any claim relating to the App is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the App in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty-five U.S. dollars.

These exclusions and this cap apply only as far as the law allows. Nothing in this Agreement excludes or limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so — including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and for any other liability that cannot be limited under the mandatory law that applies to you (for instance, under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, or — in EU civil-law countries — liability for intent or gross negligence). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

13 Term and termination

This license lasts until it ends. It ends automatically if you break its terms, and you may end it at any time by uninstalling and deleting all copies of the App. When the license ends, you must stop using the App and remove it — but your exported worlds and Content remain yours to keep. Sections that by their nature should survive — ownership (05), the disclaimers (11), the liability limit (12), and governing law (14) — survive termination.

14 Governing law

This Agreement is governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If any part of this Agreement is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our failure to enforce a term is not a waiver of it.

If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not take away the protection of the mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country where you live: you keep the benefit of those rules, and where their law gives you the right, you may bring a claim in your home courts. For copies obtained through the Microsoft Store, this is consistent with the Store's standard terms, which default to your home jurisdiction's law and preserve your local consumer rights.

15 Changes to this agreement

We may update this Agreement as the App changes or the law requires. When we do, we'll revise the effective date at the top of this page, and material changes will be noted in the App or on our website. If you keep using the App after an update takes effect, you're agreeing to the revised terms; if you don't agree to a change, stop using the App.
